A Little 'Bout Us

Well, I never thought I would be the 'Homesteading" kind of family. Best to just start from the beginning. Papa Bear and I met our first weekend of College at BYU Idaho. A year later we were happily married and just after our second anniversary we had our sweet little Monkey Boy. We also joined the US Navy that same year. During our two years in Idaho we found some pretty amazing places to explore including some of the countries best national parks. Papa Bear took up hunting and when it wasn't hunting season he could be found fishing instead. I didn't marry a red neck, but something about those two years in Idaho made him turn into one. After our four years a BYU we started our world wind journey in the Navy…not before finding out we were pregnant with our sweet little Sassy girl. Our first stop was Connecticut, then Georgia where Sassy was born, then we flew off to Sasebo Japan for Papa Bears first ship and our first tour as a real Navy Family. Japan was an amazing experience for our family. I think the greatest gift I got from our trip in Japan was a love for gardens. We lived in the country and were surrounded by small 'mom and pop" farms and the amazing food we could get their grown right from the ground we were standing on was priceless. Japan also turned me on to all things Organic. Mind you we are a family living on one income so organic everything is not in our reach with our budget, but there are a few life style changes that I could make to get us as close to all Organic as possible for us. Next, after our glorious two years in Japan we made the trip back to America, of course not before finding out we are pregnant with #3, Ninja boy. (I'm finding a pattern that correlates with our moving that I find myself a little worried about) After getting nicely settled in our new area, St Louis Il, we were blessed with our little Ninja boy and bought our first house. Life just wasn't quite hectic enough so first we added our sweet lovable Pitbull Mochi and then just after this last Christmas our little pig English Bulldog Elsa. Whew seems like a handful right…Not so! And just to make things more interesting we have also decided to Homeschool all of our children starting the 2014-15 school year. SO somehow I went from a "normal" family to an organic eating, make it all from scratch, garden growing, homeschooling, DoTerra oil loving, fishing, and hunting kind of Homesteading family. Even crazier if our home owners association would allow it I would also have some chickens and my own milking cow too (and Papa bear has requested some fainting goats, purely for entertainment reasons). I think most people believe that to Homestead you have to be up in the Alaskan Mountains away from everything else or that its just not feasible on their budget, but I am hear to tell you it is just not so! Anyone can improve their life/health/happiness/kids childhood you name it by homesteading and it is possible for anyone!
